Stars Uganda Volunteer Safeguarding & Code of Conduct Pledge
As a volunteer with Stars Uganda, I acknowledge that the safety, emotional well-being, and rights of the children in our care are paramount. I commit to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, professional conduct, and child protection at all times during my engagement with the organization.
By signing this pledge, I agree to strictly adhere to the following principles and standards:
1. Child Protection & Safeguarding
Zero Tolerance for Abuse: I will not engage in any form of physical, emotional, verbal, or sexual abuse, neglect, exploitation, or harassment of any child or member of the staff.
Appropriate Interaction: I will keep all physical interactions appropriate, non-intrusive, and always in visible, open spaces. I will never be alone with a child behind closed doors or in private quarters.
Equal Treatment: I will treat every child with dignity, respect, and fairness, regardless of their gender, background, disability, or circumstances.
2. Privacy & Digital Safeguarding
Dignity in Photography: I will only take photos or videos with prior explicit authorization from Stars Uganda staff. I will ensure all imagery preserves the dignity and privacy of the children and family members.
Social Media & Confidentiality: I will not publish full names, exact locations, or sensitive personal histories of children on personal social media or public platforms. I will respect the privacy of all program beneficiaries and organizational data.
3. Operational Conduct & Professionalism
Role Boundaries: I will operate within my designated volunteer scope, respect local staff expertise, and follow directions given by organizational leadership and the Safeguarding Lead.
Substance Policy: I will not consume, possess, or be under the influence of alcohol or illicit substances while performing volunteer duties or while on organizational premises.
Gifts & Financial Transactions: I will not give personal cash, expensive gifts, or financial promises directly to individual children, staff, or families without prior authorization from management.
4. Reporting & Compliance
Duty to Report: I will immediately report any observed, suspected, or disclosed incidents of child abuse, policy breaches, or safety concerns to the designated Safeguarding Lead or executive management.
Cooperation: I agree to fully cooperate with any internal reviews or investigations regarding safeguarding concerns.
Acknowledgement & Commitment
I confirm that I have read, understood, and agree to abide by the Stars Uganda Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct. I understand that failure to comply with this pledge may result in the immediate termination of my volunteer placement and, where appropriate, referral to legal authorities.
