Provide rescue, healing and hope to children in Uganda

Stars Uganda is a transition home for children under six who’ve been abused, neglected or abandoned. We provide urgent care and a safe place to recover, and help every child return to a loving family.

Caring for Uganda’s Youngest Survivors

We care for under-six children who’ve faced neglect, abandonment or abuse. In our home, children receive shelter, nutrition, healthcare, emotional support and early learning. We prepare families for safe reintegration and work with local leaders to protect children across the community.

Stars Uganda is an independent, locally registered NGO in Uganda. For our work in the United States, we partner with H.E.L.P. International to support fundraising and international operations.

Our work is divided into three primary goals

Care and Stabilisation

We provide urgent care for children under six who’ve been abused, neglected or abandoned. In our transition home they receive daily nutrition, healthcare, early learning and trauma-informed emotional support.

Family Reintegration

We work with each child’s family to create a safe, stable home. Parents receive hands-on training, and in some cases small microloans to build income. We support reintegration with follow-ups to prevent re-abandonment.

Community Strengthening

We run local health clinics, training and farming projects that improve nutrition, create income and build long-term care. We also partner with churches and community leaders to protect vulnerable children beyond the home.

How we support each child’s full journey

Rescue

We step in when a child’s home is unsafe, working with local authorities to bring them into our care.

In our transition home, children receive daily nutrition, healthcare, safety and consistent, loving routines.

Through play, singing and age-appropriate activities, we support early learning and development.

Caring relationships and emotional support help children recover from trauma and feel safe again.

We prepare families, arrange day visits, and guide children back home—continuing support to keep them safe.

A start to our new home

Thanks to the generosity of the Diocese in Jinja, we’ve been gifted two acres of land to build our new home. Your support now helps us construct a safe, child-centred space where more children can heal and grow.

I am honored to support the St. Joseph's Shining Stars organization and it's leader, Morella Carta. Morella has been such an inspiration since the day I met her; her work with  St. Joseph's Shining Stars is no exception. She is impacting lives with her dedication

- Caliopie Walsh

We are delighted to support SJSLS because we feel very strongly that everyone in this world deserves an opportunity and these children are no exception. The world would be a much better place if efforts like these were replicated in so many different parts of the globe. We wish you continued success.

- Eric and Ana Mayer

I support SJSLS because giving a future to children will make a better world later.

- Gracielamar Gonzalez

I support SJSLS with my time because I have seen how intervening with children when they are very young, and with young families, can make all the difference. SJSLS strives to be a resource for these young families to help them get ahead with a plan of action that works. I love that and fully admire that goal.

- Frida Matute

I support SJSLS because Morella's passion for compassion is very rarely seen.

- Alicia Carrazana

I support SJSLS because of its mission to empower the least empowered... providing a meaningful life for abandoned, neglected and impoverished children at a critical stage in child development; without the services of SJSLS the future of most of these children would likely be limited to childhood and for the rest, miserable life. Thus, SJSLS is indeed a rescue from heaven for these children.

- Solomon Kabuka

Cuando le abro mi corazón a los niños y le regalo un poco de amor me siento confiada en el futuro de  una humanidad con más compasión, amor y paz.

- Yudelka Solano

St. Joseph's Shining Little Stars led by Morella Carta is all about creating paths towards a better future for kids really needing a hand. Her mission is clear, her commitment unwavering and results visible in so many smiles of those under her care.

- Luis Matute

I support St. Joseph's Shining Little Stars because I believe all human beings, especially children are in need of love, caring, and shelter, and this organization have it all.

- Marta Valencia

We love SJSLS because you not only give the kids a loving home when they most need it, you also give them a chance to a promising future.
