Growing food, growing futures
Our farm provides daily nourishment for the children in our home, while also generating income and teaching sustainable skills. It’s more than food, it’s a story of care, commitment, and resilience.
In the beginning
In 2019, we began our farm with 100 tiny chicks and a small vegetable plot. Geoffrey, our caretaker, slept beside the chicks at night, keeping the charcoal fires burning to give them warmth. Thanks to his dedication, the chicks survived, and by May that year we collected our very first egg. That moment marked the start of a journey toward food security and sustainability for our children. We have now increased out poultry program to 250 chickens!
What the farm provides today
Chickens
We now produce around 90 trays of eggs every week. The children receive the protein they need to grow strong, and the surplus is sold in local markets to support our programs.
Vegetables
Our 2,000 sq. ft. garden grows more than a dozen different crops, including tomatoes, carrots, cabbage, pumpkin, and high-protein greens. This variety provides balanced nutrition year-round, helping children recover from malnutrition.
Income & Stability
The farm not only feeds our children but also generates regular income. This income covers essentials like school fees, medical care, and upkeep of the home, reducing reliance on donations alone.
The future of our farm
Good nutrition is essential for recovery. Many of the children who come to us arrive underweight and malnourished. With more capacity, we can provide for more children, support more families, and build greater resilience for the future.
Our goal is to expand the poultry project to 5,000 chickens and grow an even wider range of vegetables. Every seed planted and every egg collected is an investment, not just in food, but in the long-term wellbeing of Uganda’s children.
